AIPPI 2015

AIPPI 2015 will be held from October 10-14, 2015. AIPPI congress is a conference organized by intellectual property communities. On October 13, 2015, there will be "Pharma Session" including Trademark, Personalized Medicine, Technology Transfer, Policy-based Examination of patent validity.

In the Personalized Medicine Session, which is a very promising field of research, the session will deal with questions have arisen in relation to the intellectual property protection available for this area of innovation, referring to recent decisions such as the Myriad case in the US, which now have been evaluated as having "[limited] the options for patenting biomarkers, diagnostics,selection algorithms and similar tools for personalized medicine".

This panel session will "[review] the state of the law in the US, Europe, and Asia regarding the available forms of IP protection (such as patents, data protection and trade secrets) to incentivise this area of research."

Takeshi S. Komatani

Patent Attorney, Ph.D., SHUSAKU·YAMAMOTO

Takeshi S Komatani received his PhD from the University of Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan with Professor Kinoue, and registered as Japanese licensed pharmacist. He was a researcher at F. Hoffmann-La Rochein Basel, Switzerland. Thereafter, he joined SHUSAKU·YAMAMOTO, a patent and law firm in Osaka, Japan in 1998, and was registered to practice before the Japanese Patent Office and appear as Paten tand Trademark Counsel before the Japanese Courts, admitted, 2000 and was registered as IP litigation certified intellectual property attorney in 2004. He is currently the Firm's principal of the Chemical/Pharma and Bio/LifeSciences Groups. He is a member of the Association Internationale pour laProtection de la Propriété Industrielle (AIPPI), Standing Committee Q94 regarding TRIPS, and also a member of the Editorial Board of the Pharmaceutical Patent Analyst (UK) since 2012. He is also a member of Japan Patent Attorneys Association (JPAA), Asian Patent Attorneys Association (APAA), Intellectual Property Association of Japan (IPAJ), The Pharmaceutical Society of Japan(PSJ), Japan Pharmaceutical Association (JPA), American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and Certified Specialist Association of Intellectual Property Management (GSAIPM). He has lectured extensively on Japanese and international/trilateral IP law/practice at the invitation of the Japan Patent Office, Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (Kansai Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry) and prestigious universities including Kyoto University (Japan) and KAIST (South Korea). He has contributed a number ofarticles on IP law/practice, particularly biotechnology, pharmaceutical industry and sciences, regenerative medicine etc., that have been published in IP/research journals and publications including the Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun, a Japanese technology oriented newspaper, PharmStage (Japan), Research and Development Leader (Japan), and Pharmaceutical Patent Analyst (UK).
