In a new, free Editorial from Future Science OA, E Joel Loveridge and Rudolf Allemann, from Cardiff University, discuss where we stand with respect to targeting enzymes for medical applications. Beginning with an insight into what we have learned about the physical basis of enzyme catalysis, they go on to look at the challenges that still remain in enzymology and postulate on the future – could the combination of chemical ligation and heavy enzyme approaches be applied to fuel drug design and development? Different experimental and computational methods will certainly be needed to address some of the challenging problems that remain. Read the full piece here.
