Novel small-molecule approach to cancer therapy could lead to new treatments

A small molecule has been developed by researchers at the Baylor College of Medicine (Houston, TX, USA) that targets the steroid receptor coactivator family of cancer cell activators, and which could lead to novel anticancer agents.

Going after undruggable protein targets such as co activators is a novel approach. In the human genome over 1000 such proteins exist. Classically, the druggable class include enzymes, GPCRs, transporters and channel proteins. This study opens up additional class of drug targets for cancer therapy. Other therapeutic areas could benefit by this line of reasoning.
