Study Autophagy Within Cells

Autophagy is a process that allows the orderly degradation and recycling of organelles and cellular components that have become dysfunctional. Dysfunctions in autophagy have been implicated in diseases such as cancer and diabetes. We have labelled LC-3, a protein that regulates autophagy, in order to study the activity of autophagy directly within cells in culture. We have used a number of pharmacological tools to manipulate autophagy to demonstrate the utility of the approach for compound screening purposes.
